Enabling texture compression for a multipatch layer

Available with 3D Analyst license.

Textures are the images displayed on the exterior shell of a multipatch feature. You can often gain performance by displaying the textures in a compressed image format.

  1. Right-click the multipatch layer in the table of contents, and click Properties.
  2. Click the Rendering tab.
  3. Check Rendering with compressed textures to enable it.
  4. Click OK.
Tip:
  • This type of compression is similar to that used for photographic images in JPEG format. The file size is reduced and written to the graphics card for improved performance. Visually, there is little noticeable degradation.
