Making a layer transparent

Available with 3D Analyst license.

Before you can apply layer transparency in ArcScene using the interactive slider, make sure the 3D Effects toolbar is displayed. If necessary, click the Customize menu, point to Toolbars, then click the name of the toolbar to add it.

  1. On the 3D Effects toolbar, click the drop-down arrow and choose the layer you want to adjust transparency for.
  2. Click the Layer Transparency button Layer Transparency and move the slider to a value.
  3. The transparency effect occurs dynamically while you move the slider. When you release the mouse button, the tool disappears, and the transparency effect stays at the value you left it at.

  • You can also review and set this property on the Display tab of the Layer Properties dialog box for a layer. See How to make a layer transparent.
