Setting the base height from an attribute in ArcScene

Available with 3D Analyst license.

Follow the steps below to define the base height for a 2D or 3D features in ArcScene, using a feature attribute or expression.

  1. Right-click the layer and click Properties.
  2. Click the Base Heights tab.
  3. Click the Use a constant value or expression option.
  4. Click the Calculate button Calculator.
  5. Double-click the field that will provide the z-value for the features.
  6. Click OK on all dialog boxes.
  7. The 2D features are drawn in 3D using the attribute you selected as the z-value.

Tip:
  • You can use any valid SQL expression in step 4 (for example, "([LEVEL] * 10) + [BASE]").
  • Double-clicking the layer name in the table of contents can be used as a shortcut to the Layer Properties dialog box.
