As its name implies, the Center On Target tool directly manipulates the target location. When you click on the 3D view to set a new target location, the observer location will remain the same and will center its view on the new location. This is similar to standing still and turning your head to look at something different.
By setting a new target location, you are also preparing the 3D view for other uses. For example, rotating the 3D view after using this tool will pivot around the new target point, making that location the focus of the animation.
- Click the Center On Target
button.
The pointer changes to indicate the Center On Target tool is active.
- Click once in the 3D view, either on the surface or a 3D object.
If the Center On Target button is missing from your Tools toolbar, you can add it by going to the Customize menu and clicking Customize Mode. Click the Commands tab and search for the button under the Category, Viewer and drag the icon onto the toolbar.
The target is updated to the new location, centering the view on it.
