Activating and deactivating masking

The Activate Masking tool allows you to turn feature masking on and off while working in ArcMap. Turning off masking can increase draw speed significantly.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Aviation Editing.
  3. Click the Activate Masking button Activate Masking on the Aviation Editing toolbar.

    Masking is activated.

    Tip:

Although this button can turn masking on, it does not set up masking properties. To select features to be masked and other masking options, right-click the data frame in the table of contents and click Advanced Drawing Options. You can set up and save your masking settings using the Feature Display Settings tool.

  4. Click the Activate Masking button Activate Masking again to turn masking off.
