Balance territories concepts

Available with Business Analyst license.

Well balanced territories are ideal for benchmarking and equalizing your marketplace. You can balance up to five variables and weight according to preference.

By default, all variables are weighted equally. Using the pie chart, you can change the variable importance of the territories you are creating. Click and drag the separator lines to change the percentages. The numbers will automatically change in the field view. The percentage must total 100.

Setup Level Parameters

As an example, this would be useful for a cable TV provider looking to redistrict the franchise areas based on ZIP Codes. An equal population distribution is key to adequately support a customer base. You might want to set the population importance variable to a higher percentage than the households. This increases the probability that the underlying ZIP Codes will be combined to form weighted territories with equal population.

The image below shows statistically well-balanced territories using two variables of population and households. The Territory Design window chart view provides a good way to visualize how well territories are balanced. The dotted line in the chart below shows the average balance among all territories. The better the balance, the closer each bar will be to the balancing line.
