Essential Territory Design vocabulary

Understanding the following terms will help you learn about the capabilities of Territory Design in ArcGIS Pro.

Alignment layer

The base geography on which all territories and their levels are based

Balance index

A figure between 0 and 100 that determines how close territory parameters are met

Balancing

The process of creating territories that have equal statistics across a market

Barriers

Used to restrict territory creation in some areas and restrict areas of the territory

Capacity

An attribute threshold to constrain territories

Compactness score

A figure between 0 and 100 that determines how close a territory, or group of territories, is to the circumference of a perfect circle—the higher the score, the more efficient the territory

Constraints

Customizable parameters that control the shape and size of territories

Locked territories

Territories that won’t be reassigned to other territories during balance

Overlapped territories

One territory assigned to two or more managers

Restricted areas

Areas that are restricted when creating territories

Seed points

Territory centers representative of actual locations, such as offices or stores

Territory

An individual geography, or group of geographies, that forms a boundary

Territory extent

A defined area used to ensure the analysis will include only the specified geographies

Territory index

A prebuilt data index used to improve the automatic creation or adjusting performance of territories

Territory network index

A prebuilt point-to-point street network distance cache used to improve performance when creating or adjusting territories

Territory Solution

A layer containing all the necessary elements for building, editing, and maintaining territories
