A number of standard demographic report templates are provided with Business Analyst. For more information on these reports, see the appendix. You can also create a general report that contains all categories. The Reports wizard uses summary data to create standard reports.
Choose a layer in your map with boundaries such as drive-time rings, equal competition areas, or even your own custom-drawn trade area. The demographics that fall inside the boundaries of the layer will be summarized in the report. For example, if you created a population report using simple ring trade areas as the layer with boundaries, your report would summarize the population data for each ring in the layer.
You can also create a report based on only certain boundaries of a layer. For instance, you might want to create a report using simple rings as the layer with boundaries, but you might only be interested in one or two of those rings.
You might also want to run a report for multiple areas in different layers all at the same time. For instance, you could have a layer that consists of a simple one-mile ring and another layer that contains a 10-minute drive time. You can load both areas at the same time.
- In ArcMap, open the map you want to use to create a report.
- Click the Business Analyst menu and click Reports > Run Reports....
- Click Run Summary/Demographic Reports for the variety of report you want to use.
- Choose the boundary layer for which you want to run a report.
- Click Next.
- Choose how you want to summarize data for your reports. You can select one of the following:
- For Individual Features
- For the Whole Layer
- For both Individual Features and Whole Layer
For example, if you run a Population report on three different simple ring trade areas and choose the Individual Features option, the report will show the population for each individual ring on its own page. If you choose the Whole Layer option, a single report will total the combined population for all three simple rings.
- Choose the report you want to run. You can choose one or more. Click the buttons in the middle to navigate through the templates. Click Next.
- Choose one or all of the options for viewing the final report:
- Reports format exports the report to the desired output from the Change... button.
- View reports on screen opens the report for viewing when it is finished.
- Add report data back to analysis layer
- Insert map image (If supported by report templates) You can also choose to insert a map image if the report supports this option and add the report data back to an analysis layer.
- Create single report file combines multiple reports for the same analysis into a single report.
- Report Style sends the report to the desired printer.
