Creating a configuration file for properties

You can save ArcGIS Defense Mapping configuration settings in the Property Configuration dialog box to a configuration file. The configuration file can then be used when you want to set up settings for another map document. Configuration files are stored at the following location:

  • On Windows XP—<Installation location>\Documents and Settings\<user login>\Application Data\ESRI\Production\Desktop<version>\Settings.
  • On Windows 7, Vista, and Windows Server 2008—<Installation location>\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Production<version>\Desktop\Settings.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Defense Mapping.
  3. On the Defense Mapping toolbar, click Defense Mapping > Options.

The Property Configuration dialog box appears.

  4. Click the Configuration File drop-down arrow and type the name of the new configuration file.
  5. Click the Configuration Alias text box and type an alias for the configuration file.

This alias appears on the Defense Mapping toolbar, not the configuration file name.

  6. Click the appropriate tab for which you want to modify the settings.
  7. Edit the appropriate settings.
    • Add attributes.
    • Remove attributes.
    • Restore the default attribute names.
    • Choose the bridge target feature class.
    • Choose the building target feature classes.
    • Configure the criteria for building features.
    • Set values for the Geometry Reporter.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 as necessary.
  9. Click Create File.

    Tip:

You can delete the file by clicking Delete File.

  10. Click OK.
