Representing geostatistical layers as contours

Available with Geostatistical Analyst license.

When you represent geostatistical layers as contours, you can choose to display the lines of the contour or isoline in either draft or presentation quality.

  1. Right-click the desired geostatistical layer in the ArcMap table of contents and click Properties.
  2. Click the Symbology tab.
  3. Click Contours in the Show list and check the accompanying check box.

The item that is highlighted in the Show list determines the options shown on the right side of the Symbology tab. For example, although Filled Contours may be checked in the Show list, hillshading options are shown because Hillshade is highlighted in the Show list.

  4. Set the desired parameters.
  5. Click Apply.
Tip:
Having the contours and the hillshade representations both checked can give particularly stunning effects.
Tip:
To view two layers at the same time, represent one as contours and superimpose it over the other filled contours, or make the geostatistical layer transparent.
