An Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) is a vector chart that conforms to the IHO specifications contained in Publication S-57, which is a transfer standard for vector data. The following workflow will guide you through creating an ENC using ArcGIS Maritime.

The production environment consists of two major components: the Nautical Information System (NIS) and the product library. The NIS is a centralized data storage repository, which means that all the data is stored and maintained there. Once the appropriate data is compiled or loaded to the NIS, it is maintained there. ENCs can then be extracted directly from the NIS using the Export Nautical Product command. Supporting information for each ENC product, such as the geographic area of interest, scale, and metadata, is stored in the product library. The product library is essentially a catalog of your ENC portfolio. Your workflow will consist of the following:
- Load source data.
- Create new data.
- Verify data.
- Export to S-57 format.
- Publish and package ENC products.
