Updating nautical symbology

The Update tool adds the required fields (RuleID, Override, and Text string) to the geodatabase. The ArcGIS Maritime Chart schema is preconfigured with the INT1 specification. When creating national symbology, editing the representation rule, or adding a representation rule on a specific layer, the Update tool will add the required information to your schema.

Note:

Adding representations to your enterprise NIS is not recommended.

Tip:

You can add the process of calculating S-52 to your checkout replicas if you want editors to have symbology on their database while editing.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. In the Table Of Contents window, click the List By Source button List By Source.
  3. In the Table Of Contents window, select the layers or feature dataset to be updated.

    Note:

If the feature dataset is selected, the process runs on the entire workspace. If individual layers are selected, the Update process is limited to those selected layers.

  4. If necessary, add the Update command by doing the following:
    1. On the main menu, click Customize > Customize Mode.

      The Customize dialog box appears.

    2. Click the Commands tab.
    3. Choose Nautical Symbology in the Categories list.
    4. Drag the Update command to a toolbar.
    5. Click Close.
  5. Click the Update button.

The Update Specifications dialog box appears.

  6. Check the box for the symbology you want to add to the geodatabase.
  7. Click OK.

The fields and representation domains required to support the symbology are added to the geodatabase.
