Configuring calculated field properties

Available with Production Mapping license.

Configuring a calculated field involves defining a SQL statement, a VBScript, and a field in which to store text strings. Similar to calculated representations, you can run code before and after the rule is run. This is all configured in the Visual Specifications Advanced View dialog box.

The Visual Specifications Advanced View dialog box
  1. Add a new rule if necessary.
  2. Double-click the Rule Description cell and type a description for the new rule.
  3. Click the ellipsis (...) in the Workspace cell and define the workspace.
  4. Click the Layer drop-down arrow and choose the map layer for the rule.
  5. Click the ellipsis (...) in the Rep/Field Name cell and define the Representation properties dialog box.
  6. Optionally, click the Pre Code drop-down arrow and choose the code you want to execute before the rule is run.
  7. Click the SQL Statement drop-down arrow and choose Edit SQL Statement.
  8. Define the SQL statement that defines the features to include with the rule.
  9. Click the Expression drop-down arrow and choose Edit Expression.

    The Expression Parser appears.

  10. Configure the VBScript you want to use to refine the feature selection for the rule.
  11. Click OK.

An example of a text string appears in the Preview field.

  12. Optionally, click the Post Code drop-down arrow and choose the code you want to execute after the rule has been run.
  13. Optionally, click Apply to save the new rule and continue working in the Visual Specifications Advanced View window.
  14. Click OK to save all changes and close the Visual Specifications Advanced View dialog box.
