Copying and pasting all metadata attributes

Available with Production Mapping license.

You may find that some features in your database do not have the feature-level metadata attributes populated or the features have incorrect metadata values. You can update the values of all the feature-level metadata attributes by copying and pasting the values to all the features in the current selection.

Copying metadata attributes only updates fields that are configured to populate when a feature is modified. Other feature-level metadata fields keep their original values.

You can use the Copy/Paste to Selected Features command to apply the metadata values to all the features in the current selection set. This allows you to update all the features with one click instead of applying the values to individual features on the Update tab.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. Load data in the map if necessary.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
  4. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.

    Note:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    Tip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  5. Select one or more features in the map.
  6. Click the Update tab on the Manage Features window.

The selected features appear in a tree view.

  7. Click the Metadata tab on the Manage Features window.
  8. Right-click the Metadata tab and ensure that the Use FCT Metadata option is checked.
  9. Click to choose a metadata favorite in the Metadata Favorites list.

The attributes and the attribute values saved in the metadata favorite appear in the Metadata Attributes window.

  10. Right-click the Metadata tab and click Copy/Paste to Selected Features.

The metadata attributes from the selected metadata favorite are applied to all the selected features.
