Saving layout rules to an XML file

Available with Production Mapping license.

Once you have configured your layout rules, you can save them to an XML file. Layout rules XML files can be shared throughout your organization.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. Open an existing map document or create a new map document and add data to it.
  3. Switch to layout view.
  4. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Cartography.

    The Production Cartography toolbar appears.

  5. Click the Layout window button Layout window on the Production Cartography toolbar.

    The Layout window appears.

  6. Click Apply Layout Rules.

    The Apply Layout Rules dialog box displays.

  7. Click the Properties button Properties.

    The Layout Rules dialog box displays.

  8. Configure layout rules.

    Examples of layout rule configuration can be found here:

    • Creating a new vertical layout rule
    • Creating a new horizontal layout rule
    • Adding a new page size
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Save on the Apply Layout Rules dialog box.
  11. The Export Rules dialog box displays.
  12. Browse to the location where you want to save your layout rules.
  13. Click Save.
