During cartographic production, you may need to view invisible representations and unplaced annotation to determine whether they need to be added to the map or chart. Making these feature geometries visible can help you decide whether they would enhance or clutter the information that is required for the map or chart. The Show Invisible Representation And Annotation tool displays these features in the map using the colors selected for invisible representations and unplaced annotation, respectively. This can be useful when you need to find invisible representations and unplaced annotation in the map.
This tool shows representations by enabling the Draw invisible representations property on the Display Options dialog box. Unplaced annotation is shown by enabling the Draw unplaced annotation option on the Symbology tab on the Layer Properties dialog box. See Placing unplaced annotation features for information on creating annotation, and Working with feature class representations for information on displaying invisible representations.
- Start ArcMap.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Cartography Editing.
- Open a map that contains invisible representations and unplaced annotation.

- Click the Show Invisible Representation And Annotation button on the Production Cartography Editing toolbar.
