Exercise 2: Editing a schematic dataset

Complexity:
Beginner
Data Requirement:
ArcGIS Tutorial Data for Desktop
Data Path:
C:\ArcGIS\ArcTutor\Schematics
Goal:
Learning about how to edit a schematic dataset using the Schematic Dataset Editor

To create and configure the schematic diagram templates and schematic feature classes related to a schematic dataset, you need to edit the schematic dataset within Schematic Dataset Editor. In this exercise, you will learn how to edit a schematic dataset.

  1. In ArcCatalog, navigate to the C:\ArcGIS\ArcTutor\Schematics\TutorialSchematicDB geodatabase you created during Exercise 1.
  2. Expand this geodatabase entry in Catalog tree and right-click the SchematicBuilderSamples schematic dataset you created during Exercise 1.
  3. Click Edit schematic dataset button Edit... from the pop-up menu.

The Schematic Dataset Editor opens, and the schematic dataset configuration parameters display. At this time, there are no specific parameters in the schematic dataset.

    Note:

If you expand the Data Sources entry in the Schematic Dataset Editor tree, you will see the CURRENTDS data source. This data source is automatically referenced in any schematic dataset. This is the data source used to connect to the geodatabase where the schematic dataset and its related schematic components (the schematic diagram templates, schematic feature classes, schematic diagrams, schematic folders, and so on) are stored.

    Caution:

You must enable the Schematics extension (Customize > Extension menu) to enable the Edit... menu item.
