In this exercise, you will learn how to use the Style Manager to create a custom node style. At the completion of this exercise, your Task Assistant window will appear as follows:
Add the Digitize New House step
In this part of the exercise, you will add the Digitize New House step.
- Click the New Step button on the Task Assistant window.
A new step appears in the Task Assistant window.
- Click to highlight the new step.
- Use the step management tools to promote or demote (move up or move down) the new step if it is not added at the correct level.
The step should be at the same level as Requires an Edit Session.
- Click the Designer tab.
- Click the cell next to Description and type Digitize New House.
- Click the cell next to Name, double-click the existing text, then type Digitize New House.
- Press the ENTER key.
Create the Set Feature Template and Sketch step
In this part of the exercise, you will create the Set Feature Template and Sketch step.
- Click the New Step button on the Task Assistant window.
A new step appears in the Task Assistant window.
- Click to highlight the new step.
- If necessary, click the Demote Step button on the Task Assistant toolbar to place the step at the correct level.
- Click the Designer tab.
- Click the cell next to Description and type Set Template to Buildings.
- Click the cell next to Name, double-click the existing text, then type Set Feature Template and sketch.
- Click the cell next to Feature Template and click the ellipsis (...) button that appears.
The Feature Template Item Editor dialog box appears.
- Choose the Buildings layer and template from Layer Templates. Ensure the polygon construction tool is highlighted under Construction Tools.
- Click OK.
Create the custom style node for the Set Feature Template and Sketch step
In this part of the exercise, you will learn how to use the Style Manager to create a custom node style for the Set Feature Template and sketch step.
- Click to highlight the Feature Template and Sketch step in the Task Assistant window.
- Click the Designer tab.
- Click the cell next to Node Style and click the ellipsis (...) button that appears.
The Node Style Item Editor dialog box appears.
- Click New.
- Click the cell next to Default Image, click the ellipsis (...) button, then browse to the image you want to use.
- Click Open.
- Click the cell next to Selected Image, click the ellipsis (...) button, then browse to the image you want to use.
This is the image that will display when the step is selected in the task assistant workflow.
- Click Open.
- Click the cell next to Name, double-click the existing text, then type Sketch Tool.
- Click Save.
The new style is saved to the custom style file.
- Click OK.
The Set Feature Template and sketch step is displayed with the new style.
Create the Update Attributes step
In this part of the exercise, you will create the Update Attributes step.
- Click the New Step button on the Task Assistant window.
A new step appears in the Task Assistant window.
- Click to highlight the new step.
- If necessary, click the Demote Step button on the Task Assistant window to place the step at the correct level.
- Click the Designer tab.
- Click the cell next to Description and type Open Attribute Editor.
- Click the cell next to Name, double-click the existing text, then type Update Attributes.
- Click the cell next to Commands and click the ellipsis (...) button that appears.
The Command Item Editor dialog box appears.
- In the Categories list, click Editor.
- In the Commands list, double-click Attributes.
The command appears in the Selected Commands area.
- Click OK.
