Adding data workspace connections using the Workflow Manager Administrator

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

  • Data workspace

The connection information for all your spatial data can be set up so that ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) manages how you connect to the data that you want edited.

Data workspace

In addition to storing the configuration and job information, the repository also stores the connection information to your spatial data. This information is stored as a data workspace connection in the ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) database. You can configure as many data workspace connections as needed.

You can add a data workspace by using connection properties for the geodatabase. These connection properties are used when ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) creates an edit version or launches ArcMap. You can also add a feature service data workspace by using a service URL. The edit version created from the feature service can be accessed in ArcGIS Pro and used for data editing.

Data workspace options
Note:

As of 10.6.1, Workflow Manager (Classic) supports adding a data workspace with branch versioning. Branch versioning makes data versioning using feature services possible. For more information, see Enterprise data management strategies.

Add a data workspace

  1. Open the Workflow Manager Administrator and connect to the Workflow Manager (Classic) database.
  2. Expand the Geodatabase folder.
  3. Choose the Data Workspaces folder and right-click.
  4. Click Add Data Workspace to add a new data workspace to the Workflow Manager (Classic) system.
  5. Right-click either the Contents tab or the Data Workspaces node in the Table of Contents window and click Add Data Workspace.
  6. Type the alias you want to use along with the connection properties for the geodatabase where your spatial data is stored.
  7. Click OK.
  8. If you would like each of your Workflow Manager (Classic) users to connect to the spatial data with separate logins, choose the Each Workflow Manager user will connect with their own database login option.
  9. Click Add to configure connection properties for each Workflow Manager (Classic) user.

Add a feature service data workspace

A feature service data workspace is accessed through the feature service URL. The edit version for a feature service data workspace can be accessed in ArcGIS Pro and used for data editing. When a feature service data workspace is chosen for a job, the parent version is set to sde.Default and cannot be updated.

  1. Open the Workflow Manager Administrator and connect to the Workflow Manager (Classic) database.
  2. Expand the Geodatabase folder.
  3. Choose the Data Workspaces folder and right-click.
  4. Click Add Feature Service Data Workspace to add a new feature service data workspace to the Workflow Manager (Classic) system.
  5. On the Feature Service Data Workspace Properties dialog box, type the name and URL.

  6. Click OK.

Once the data workspace has been added, the spatial data stored in the feature service can be managed by Workflow Manager (Classic).

Note:

Adding a feature service data workspace is not supported in ArcCatalog.
