Adding a Workflow Manager (Classic) database connection in ArcCatalog

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

The Workflow Manager (Classic) applications use an enterprise connection to access the Workflow Manager (Classic) Repository. If you know the connection information for the repository you want to connect to, you can create a new connection in ArcCatalog.

  1. Start ArcCatalog.
  2. Enable the Workflow Manager (Classic) extension.
  3. From within the Workflow Manager Databases node, double-click Add Workflow Manager Database.
  4. Add Workflow Manager Database
    Add a new Workflow Manager (Classic) database connection by double-clicking the Add Workflow Manager (Classic) Database node.
  5. Enter an alias and the connection information for the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository.

    The connection information that is entered must have access to the JTX_DATABASES and JTX_LOGIN_INFO tables in the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository and, if it's the first time you are setting up the connection, access to all the other Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables.

    Add a Workflow Manager (Classic) database connection by entering an alias and the connection properties for the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository.
    Note:

    This connection information will be stored on the client machine in a Workflow Manager (Classic) connection (.jtc) file. By default, these files are stored in the C:\ProgramData\Esri\WMX\<software version>\Database directory.

  7. Click Test Connection to verify connection parameters. Click OK.

    If the information you've entered is the same as how you would like the users to connect to the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository when accessing it from the Client or Workflow Manager Administrator applications, then your system is configured and ready to be used. You can skip steps 6–8.

    If you would like to configure different connection properties for accessing the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository, select the new Workflow Manager (Classic) database node that was created, right-click, then click Connect. Right-click again, then click User Properties.

    A Workspace Properties dialog box appears with an alias of Workflow Manager (Classic) system database. Enter the connection properties you would like the applications to use when connecting to the repository. The connection properties entered for the Workflow Manager (Classic) system database connection must have read/write access to all the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables.

  8. Note:

    The connection properties entered on this dialog box will be stored in the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository and do not have to match the connection properties entered when the Workflow Manager (Classic) database connection was initially created.

  9. Select to connect to the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables as either a specific user name or connect using individual logins. If choosing to connect specifically, enter a user name and password (and database if using SQL Server) that has access to all the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables. If you choose Operating System Authentication, ensure that all users accessing the database have access to all the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables. If you choose Each WMX User will connect with their own database login, you will need to add connection properties for each user.
  10. After choosing the Each WMX User will connect with their own database login option, click Add to add connection properties to the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables for each user.
  11. Configuring individual logins
    Click Add to add connection properties to the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables for each Workflow Manager (Classic) user.
  12. Select or type the Workflow Manager (Classic) user name and enter how you would like that user to connect to the Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables.
