Export and save ArcGIS Pro maps (.mapx) as Job Type basemaps

Available with Workflow Manager license.

ArcGIS Pro maps can be exported to an ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) database starting from the 10.5.1 release.

You can use the map (.mapx) as a basemap for job types or with mapping steps configured for ArcGIS Pro.

Note:

This functionality is available from ArcGIS Pro 2.0 onward.

Caution:

If an ArcGIS Pro map (.mapx) is used with job types and steps configured for ArcGIS Desktop, it does not open and an error message is displayed. The map (.mapx) cannot be viewed in the LOI tab or in the Job Results map view in ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Desktop.

You can use the ArcGIS Pro map (.mapx) in the following ways:

  • As a basemap for Job Type—The map is opened when the LaunchArcMap step is executed. This is configured without an alternative MXD.
  • LOI basemap—The map is opened as the job's LOI map when the DefineLOI step is executed.
  • Alternative MXD in LaunchArcMap step—The map is opened when the LaunchArcMap step is executed. This is configured with an alternative MXD.
  • OpenMap step—The map is opened from the ArcGIS Pro project when the step is executed.

The .mapx document is added under the Maps folder in Workflow Manager Administrator, along with the other maps (.mxd).

Note:

Exported ArcGIS Pro maps cannot be edited or previewed in ArcMap. However, they can be copied to a folder on disk in the same way as other maps (.mxd) from Workflow Manager Administrator.

All the layers in the map (.mapx) are repointed to a new version. Layers in the map (.mapx) cannot be configured in a way that they don't repoint in the Job Type properties on the Maps tab.
