Adding the Geonames feature class and table into a geodatabase

The Geonames data is loaded into both a feature class and a table. The feature class is composed only of point features, and the table contains fields with information concerning the naming conventions used for the features. The feature class contains the unique feature identifier (UFI) and unique name identifier (UNI), which match the same fields in the Geonames table.

Both the feature class and table need to be manually added to the geodatabase before you can work with Geonames data.

  1. Start ArcCatalog.
  2. Browse to the Geonames_Template.gdb file.

This file can be found in the $\Program Files\ArcGIS\ESRIDefenseMapping\Desktop<version>\Geonames\Schema\GDB directory.

  3. Copy the feature class and table in the Geonames_Template.gdb file.
  4. Browse to the database into which you want to load Geonames.
  5. Paste the feature class and table in the database.

The feature class and table are added to your database.
