Database server upgrades

You can upgrade the Microsoft SQL Server Express instance used for your database server. See Upgrade SQL Server Express for a list of the versions of SQL Server included with each database server setup. The geodatabases on the database server cannot be upgraded beyond version 10.8.x.

Before upgrading the SQL Server Express instance, use ArcMap 10.8.x or earlier to create backup files of all geodatabases on the database server.
