Creating new parcels from COGO traverse files

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

You can import traverse text files saved from the Traverse tool Traverse on the COGO toolbar as unjoined parcels in the parcel fabric. The COGO Traverse dialog box lets you create edit sketch geometry from a variety of traverse measurements in the standard editing environment.

COGO traverse files can be loaded one at a time into the parcel fabric, where each parcel traverse exists separately, or a set of traverse files can also be imported such that a parcel group is created.

Learn more about the COGO Traverse file format

To import a COGO traverse , follow these steps:
  1. In an edit session in ArcMap, open the Plan Directory dialog box (Parcel Editor > Plan Directory).
  2. Right-click the plan into which you want to import your COGO traverse and click Import Traverse.
  3. Tip:

You can also right-click a plan node in the Parcel Explorer window and click Import Traverse.

  4. In the Load Traverse dialog box, navigate to the location of your COGO traverse files and select the traverse files you want to import.
  5. To import more than one traverse file, hold down the SHIFT key and select the traverse files you want to import. When more than one traverse file is selected, parcels are imported as a parcel group.
  6. Click Add on the Load Traverse dialog box to load your selected COGO traverse files.
  7. The traverse files are loaded as unjoined parcels and are listed under Unjoined in the Parcel Explorer window.

    Note:

If the Parcel Explorer window is not visible, click Parcel Explorer Parcel Explorer Window on the Parcel Editor toolbar.
