Change versions in ArcMap

In ArcMap, you can display any version and change from one version to another using the Change Versions dialog box.

When you initially add data from an enterprise, workgroup, or desktop geodatabase to ArcMap, the data comes from the version you specified for your database connection. Once the data is added to the map, you can display data from a different version.

All feature classes in the map that are from the same geodatabase are affected when you change versions. This simplifies the process of viewing the differences between feature classes or performing an analysis with two versions.

You can change versions either from the Versioning toolbar or in the table of contents. The following steps describe how to change versions from the table of contents:

  1. Click the List By Source button List By Source in the table of contents and right-click the geodatabase connection.
  2. Click Change Version.

The Change Versions dialog box opens.

  3. Choose the version you want to display.
    • To change to a transactional version, choose a version from the Transactional or Tree View tab.
    • To change to a historical marker or specific date and time, click the Historical tab and either choose a predefined historical marker or set a specific database date and time.
  4. Click OK.

The version that is now displayed in the ArcMap document is the version you chose. This is reflected in the name of the geodatabase connection in the table of contents.
