Exporting statistics

Statistics are required for a raster dataset or mosaic dataset to perform some geoprocessing operations or certain tasks in ArcGIS Desktop applications (for example, ArcMap or ArcCatalog), such as applying a contrast stretch or classifying data.

These statistics, along with the histogram, can be exported to an XML file to be examined or edited. This file can also be used to set the statistics for a raster dataset or mosaic dataset, using the Set Raster Properties tool. This tool does not import the histogram that is also stored with the statistics.

  1. Right-click the raster dataset or mosaic dataset in ArcCatalog or the Catalog window and click Properties.
  2. Scroll to the Statistics section on the General tab.
  3. Click the Options button and click Export Statistics to XML.

    Export statistics

  4. Navigate to the location where the XML file will be saved, enter a file name, then click Save.

The statistics and the histogram are exported to the XML file.
