Displaying terrain faces by slope

Available with 3D Analyst license.

In ArcMap and ArcGlobe a terrain surface layer can be symbolized to indicate slope across the surface. These steps describe how to display terrain dataset faces by slope value.

  1. Right-click the terrain layer in the table of contents and select Properties.
  2. Click the Symbology tab.
  3. Uncheck Elevation (or any other face renderer that is checked).
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click Face slope with graduated color ramp.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click Dismiss.
  8. Optionally, click the Color Ramp drop-down arrow and click a new color ramp.
  9. Click OK.
  10. The terrain faces are rendered with colors to indicate the slope of the terrain.

Note:
You can also display the terrain faces with the same symbol by selecting the Faces with the same symbol symbology renderer instead of the Face slope with graduated color ramp symbology renderer.
