10040: Layer uses representations

  • Solutions
  • More information

Your layer uses cartographic representations for symbology. Representations offer tighter control of symbolization but will decrease performance in many circumstances due to the logic required to maintain such control. For this reason, cartographic representations are recommended only for cached map services.

Solutions

Check the drawing performance for your layer or basemap layer in ArcMap. If you are publishing, check the drawing performance for your service in the Preview window.

  • If you feel the need to make a change with your layer, you can use standard symbology instead of representations.
  • Alternatively, you can remove the layer from your document if it is not needed.

More information

Representations provide advanced capabilities for symbolizing your data. Some of these capabilities provide fine-grained control of drawing but can decrease performance.
