Formatting the date and time display on Time Slider

When visualizing temporal data, the date/time displayed on the Time Slider window is based on the current location of the Time Slider Control. The format of the date and time displayed on the Time Slider window may not be the same format as the time field you selected when setting the time properties on your temporal dataset.

Display date and time

By default, the date/time on the Time Slider window is displayed based on the date and time formats set on your computer's regional settings dialog box (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options). Based on the locale you choose, the formats listed may vary from one computer to another.

Note:

When viewing temporal data using a time window, the time on the Time Slider window is displayed as a time range. However, if no time window is specified, the time on the Time Slider window is reported as a time stamp or time instant.

Learn more about setting a time window

You can choose to display date and time using a variety of formats provided on the Time Slider Options dialog box.

  1. Click the Options button Options on the Time Slider window to open the Time Slider Options dialog box, and click the Time Display tab.
  2. In the Display date format drop-down menu, choose the format in which you want to display the date information on the Time Slider window.

On a computer with the locale set to English (United States), if you want to display the date as January 10, 2010, choose the MMMM dd, YYYY format.

  3. In the Display time format drop-down menu, choose the format in which you want to display the time information on the Time Slider window.

On a computer with the locale set to English (United States), if you want to display the time as 12:00:00 PM, choose the hh:mm:ss tt format.

    Tip:
    • To facilitate your selection, the display time formats listed use the current date and time to reflect how the data and time will display on the Time Slider window.
    • The display date and time format are used only for displaying the time values on the Time Slider window. This display format is not used when manually editing the time reported on the Time Slider window. When editing date or time on Time Slider, the date and time displayed are based on the regional local settings.
