Export Footprints

  • Summary

Summary

Exports the detailed data area for each source dataset in a Bathymetric Information System (BIS) or surface model to a polygon feature class.

Usage

  • Footprints can be exported for just those datasets participating in a particular surface model or for all datasets in a BIS.

    Note:

    If the surface model you selected in the BIS Model parameter references datasets that were removed from the BIS, the surface model will need to be updated (manually loaded and resaved in the Compose Surface window) before it can be used with this tool.

  • The output footprints will reflect the detailed area that follows the valid data pixels of the datasets in the input surface model or BIS.

  • Unlike the Export Deconflicted Footprints tool, the Export Footprints tool will generate the full data area of each dataset, even if it overlaps with another dataset in the surface model or BIS.

  • The output of this tool can be joined with the output of the Export BIS Metadata tool to produce a dataset that can be symbolized by or identified for many of its metadata characteristics.

Syntax

arcpy.bathymetry.ExportFootprints(bis_workspace, out_features, {bis_model})
ParameterExplanationData Type
bis_workspace

The Bathymetric Information System (BIS) from which the dataset footprints should be exported. This parameter accepts any geodatabase (.gdb) or enterprise database connection file (.sde) that has been registered as a BIS and which is on the latest version.

Workspace
out_features

The name and path given to the new polygon feature class that will be created.

Feature Class
bis_model
(Optional)

The name of the surface model from which to export the footprints.

ExportFootprints example (stand-alone script)

The following stand-alone script demonstrates how to use the ExportFootprints tool.

# Name: ExportFootprints_Example.py
# Description: Exports polygon features representing the fully detailed data area of each dataset in the BIS or surface model
# Requirements: ArcGIS Bathymetry, Spatial Analyst

import arcpy
arcpy.CheckOutExtension("Bathymetry")
arcpy.CheckOutExtension("Spatial")

# set up parameters
bis_workspace = r"C:\Data\GulfOfMexico_BIS.gdb"
out_features = r"C:\Data\ModelOutputs.gdb\GulfOfMexico_DatasetFootprints"
bis_model = ""

# execute the tool
arcpy.ExportFootprints_bathymetry(bis_workspace, out_features, bis_model)

Environments

  • Current Workspace

Licensing information

  • Basic: No
  • Standard: Requires ArcGIS Bathymetry and ArcGIS Spatial Analyst
  • Advanced: Requires ArcGIS Bathymetry and ArcGIS Spatial Analyst
