Data migration with a DNC NIS

When producing nautical charts, you collect each individual chart in its own geodatabase. Depending on your library, you may have to join these individual charts together. You may also need to reproduce just one chart in a multiple-chart library. This could require two checkout replicas: one for production and a second for maintenance. Depending on your choice, you may need to transfer your data into a single geodatabase before you can edgematch it. In an enterprise environment, both checkout replicas should have the changes synchronized with the DNC NIS.

Before edgematching can begin, all of the chart datasets need to be combined into one master library geodatabase. This data migration is done by selecting both product footprints found within the DNC NIS and using the DNC-specific Checkout DNC Replica tool to create the master library geodatabase. Once you have migrated your data, you can begin the edgematching process. At the completion of edgematching, you will use the Synchronize Changes tool to synchronize the edits back to the DNC NIS.

For steps to migrate your data, see Checking out a replica from the DNC NIS and Synchronizing edits to the DNC NIS for information on synchronizing changes back to the NIS database.
