Digitizing a 3D point graphic in ArcGlobe

Available with 3D Analyst license.

You can set the default properties, such as size, color, and symbol, prior to digitizing new point graphic elements. You can also set display options, such as drawing the point as a draped image or vector, and set viewing options such as pin to surface. For more information, see About setting defaults for 3D graphics.

Before you can digitize graphics to the 3D view be sure you have added the Globe 3D Graphics toolbar to ArcGlobe.

Point graphics are digitized as a single entry. For each successive point graphic you digitize, you must click the New Marker tool. To keep the drawing tool active to digitize multiple graphics in a row, click Customize > ArcGlobe Options and set the parameter at the bottom of the General tab for 3D Graphics Tools.

You can also set default properties before digitizing any new graphic by opening the Default Element Properties dialog box from the Graphics menu on the 3D Graphics toolbar. From here, you can access the default settings for each element type. For example, If you do not want your vector point graphic elements to scale when zooming, ArcGlobe has the option to set a fixed screen size. Open the Marker Element Properties dialog box and select Fixed screen size on the Effects tab.

To digitize a 3D point graphic in ArcGlobe, do the following:

  1. Click the New Marker tool New Marker on the Globe 3D Graphics toolbar.
  2. Click the point on the surface or object you want to digitize.

A point graphic is drawn at the location you digitized.

Tip:
  • In ArcGlobe, pinning is an option to fix the point graphic to the globe surface. To do this, select the point using the Select Graphics tool, right-click the element, then click Pin to surface.
  • Vector graphics, such as 3D models, do not support all layer effects. For example, per-graphic transparency is not supported. Transparency is supported at the layer level.
