Redefining an ArcGlobe layer's category in the table of contents

Available with 3D Analyst license.

You can interactively change the role of your data inside the ArcGlobe table of contents. Depending on the data type you can redefine the data as draped on the surface, floating above or below the surface or use it to contribute to the shape of the elevation.

Note that some layers cannot be moved between categories. For example, a triangulated irregular network (TIN) layer cannot be moved out of the Elevation category.

To quickly update a layer's role within the 3D view, do the following:

  1. In the table of contents, click the layer whose category you want to change.
  2. Drag the layer to the new category. A black line appears where the layer will be dropped.
  3. Release the pointer to drop the layer in its new category.
  4. The layer is reclassified as the type you indicated. You might have to set some properties for the layer to be displayed properly.

Tip:
  • You can also redefine a layer's category using context menu items. Simply right-click the layer in the table of contents and click Redefine layer.
