Setting the target LRS Network layer

All changes to LRS Networks must be made using the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar. Tools on the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar synchronize the centerline feature class, the centerline sequence table, the route table, and calibration points to ensure proper construction and calibration of LRS Networks.

LRS-managed feature classes and tables should not be edited with conventional editing tools in ArcMap. Attempting to edit network features directly may result in a misalignment with the rest of the data model. For example, if route geometries are edited directly, the centerlines will be misaligned.

Since routes and centerlines need to be in alignment for the system to perform as expected, the correct way to edit a route’s geometry is to edit the centerline (as the centerline defines the geometry and location of the route). Once a centerline’s geometry is edited, the route’s geometry is automatically updated to ensure the edit is captured in the edit log so that event behavior rules are applied.

LRS Networks are selected using the Networks drop-down menu on the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar. You must be in an edit session for the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar to be active.

Use the Networks drop-down menu to choose a target LRS Network.
  1. Start ArcMap and add the LRS Network and centerline feature classes to your map.
  2. Start an edit session.
  3. Click the Networks drop-down arrow to choose an LRS Network to edit.

The chosen network remains in the Networks drop-down list when performing tasks such as creating, extending, realigning, reassigning, or retiring routes.

Note:

The Networks drop-down list may be reset if a new data source is selected for editing or the network is no longer in the MXD file.
