An overview of the Cartographic Refinement toolset

The Cartographic Refinement toolset contains tools that help manage representations and symbols for buildings, bridges, spot heights, and other features.

ToolDescription

Building Offsets

ArcGIS Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that aligns, moves, or hides building marker symbols based on a specification defined in an .xml file.

Calculate Bridge Overrides

Calculates the overrides necessary to properly display bridge representations at a given location.

Overrides can be calculated for either line or point bridge features. For a line bridge feature, an override will be calculated for the width of a bridge representation based on the overpassing feature representation that runs through the bridge.

Calculate Vertical Obstruction Elevations

Adds HGT and ZVH fields and calculates ZVH fields in Vertical Obstruction feature classes. This tool's elevation values are derived from a DEM.

Make Representations Invisible

ArcGIS Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that sets feature representations invisible in an input feature layer or selected set of features. Setting a representation invisible does not alter its feature geometry. Use this functionality to improve a map product's aesthetic or cartographic quality by hiding overlapping features and removing visual clutter.

Suppress Spot Heights

ArcGIS Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that suppresses the symbol for spot heights based on the input product type. Suppressing a symbol refers to setting a representation as invisible.
