An overview of the data source management tools

There is a set of useful tools in Schematic Dataset Editor to help in the management of data sources. These tools, their purpose, and the context in which they may be used are briefly listed below:

ActionTool/CommandContext

Finding all data sources that are not in use

Identify unused data sources

  • Diagrams that referenced those data sources have been deleted.
  • User may have changed diagram versions, and some versions are not used anymore.

Deleting data sources

  • Delete
  • Delete Unused Data Sources
  • Diagrams have been deleted.
  • The reference version has been deleted.

Changing the server/instance/database connection properties for a set of data sources

Edit Connection Properties

  • Redefine invalid data sources.
  • Server is shut down, and there is a backup database.
  • Switch to another environment (from Production environment to Test environment, or conversely).

Searching diagrams based on a particular data source

Find Diagrams By Data Source

  • This data source is not valid anymore.
  • Before changing their reference version.

Changing the reference version for diagrams based on version data

  • Find Diagrams By Data Source
  • Change Reference Version command, also available in ArcMap
  • The version has been deleted.
  • The version has been posted.

Checking data sources status

  • Open Connection
  • Automatically open data source connections
  • Identify data sources that cannot be opened.
