About terrain dataset properties

Available with 3D Analyst license.

A terrain dataset's properties are set throughout various stages of the terrain dataset creation process. The following is a list of the main properties of a terrain dataset:

  • Average point spacing
  • Height source
  • Surface feature type (SFType)
  • Terrain pyramid type
  • Overview terrain
  • Groups
  • Embedded feature classes
  • Pyramid resolution bounds
  • Anchor points

Consider how each property is represented prior to building a terrain dataset. For more information on each terrain dataset property, see the above topics.

The terrain dataset properties can be accessed in either ArcCatalog or ArcMap . To view the terrain dataset properties in ArcCatalog, right-click the terrain dataset and click Properties. To view the terrain dataset layer properties in ArcMap, right-click the terrain layer in the table of contents and click Properties. The terrain dataset properties in ArcCatalog are more complete and provide more information about terrain schema definition.
