Upgrading a mosaic dataset

Mosaic datasets are versioned. The following table describes how they are supported:

ArcGIS Version10.0 mosaic dataset10.1 mosaic dataset

10.0

Full (read/modify/create)

Not supported

10.1

Read-only

Full (read/modify/create)

To get the full functionality of the dataset at the current release, you can upgrade a mosaic dataset using the Upgrade Dataset tool.

Tip:

Any mosaic datasets that were created in ArcGIS version 10 should be moved to a current file geodatabase. A current geodatabase uses out-of-line storage, which will reduce database inflation. To achieve this, copy your 10.0 mosaic dataset and paste it into a new file geodatabase.

  1. Open the Upgrade Dataset tool.
  2. Enter the mosaic dataset to be upgraded to the current release.
  3. Click OK.
